Disney Block Party Tour

That's quite the lineup, though some of it is only for specific dates (i.e., Barenaked Ladies are only doing two dates in New Jersey). Still, TMBG, Dan Zanes, Ralph's World...nice. And Hartford's only an hour or so from here...

Oh, incidentally, we're going to have a phone interview with a Barenaked Lady sometime in the next few weeks.

Area Listeners/Readers: Go to this

We just recorded a segment (to air this week) with The Submarines, who are playing the Iron Horse tonight. It was great, they're super nice, and you should all go see them. We'll be there. (Dena and I. Not the kids.)

And be sure to listen for their segment this week - it's fun.

Nields at Universal Kids

Thanks a ton to The Nields for playing the River-sponsored benefit for Safe Passage. They put on a great fun set and the 150 or so there had a great time. Pictures are here. In addition to raising a bunch of money for Safe Passage, we also collected a lot of great kids' art for the organization's shelter; that's pictured too.

They also announced their next kids' CD. It'll be called Rock All Day, Rock All Night, and will be a two CD set, with one for the daytime -- rocking as in rock and roll -- and one for the night -- rocking as in rocking to sleep. The new songs they played were terrific, and I expect the new CD will be as well. They're hoping to have it out in July, and will be on the show when it's coming out.

Thanks also to Universal Kids for supporting the event -- neat space, cool programs, etc.

Buddy Rubbish

"Buddy Rubbish" was the stage name of Lou Roscher, long-time Valley DJ, including on our station. I wasn't here during any time that he was on the air, but by all accounts, he was brilliant. He died recently and suddenly.

Anyway, the River is doing a one-time reprise of his legendary Friday nights "Oldies Shows" tomorrow night. If you're in the area, or if you think to tune in the stream at WRSI.com, you should. It'll be hosted by Johnny Memphis (who did afternoons on the station for 21 years, until retiring last year) and longtime friend and colleague Leo T. Baldwin.

But even if you don't, go read this terrific obituary.

He leaves two kids, 8 and 6 years old.

Kids & Justice

I hadn't heard about the story of Brenda Martin, a Canadian being held in a Mexican prison, but friend-of-the-show (and of-the-Childses) Kelli sent a link to this song. Worth checking out.

Foo Fighters: Funny

Excellent Smoking Gun item featuring the Foo Fighters' hilarious tour rider.

What, do you figure, is on the riders for kids' artists? C'mon, let's baselessly and wildly speculate!

ScribbleMonster: Gallon after gallon of chocolate milk. Plus sticks of butter and dipping sauce. For the butter. Mmmm.

Frances England: Before every show, requires a live goat sacrifice. It's a thing.

Dan Zanes: Also a goat sacrifice. Weird coincidence, huh?

Justin Roberts: Every member of the band gets an Imperial ton of tofu. The tofu serves as their personal couch.

Jimmies: Four cases of Mad Dog 20/20 "Red Grape Wine" flavor, used for cooking only. They bring between 35 and 40 personal hot dishes on which they prepare surprisingly good entrees using only MD 20/20 and ingredients purchased at Circle Ks.

Uncle Rock: Dozens of Chicken McNuggets and/or any other highly synthetic foods from McDonald's, along with three boxes of Twinkies. Turns out that local "love in my food" thing is just an act for this corporate shill. (I kid! I kid!)

Provide your own ideas in the comments!

...and shout ERA!

Here's the brand-spanking-new Deedle Deedle Dees track based on an incident in my life when I was around Ella's age, performed by half of the band (and Chris had just learned the song on the sidewalk outside Jalopy):

Update 2: Stink.

That was fun.

We had a dozen bands play at Jalopy (great hosts, they were). You can see pictures here. Here's one of them, from the crazy rocking finale with representatives from just about everyone who was left joining AudraRox on "I Like to Pretend":

Can't even see everyone there; just at a glance, I know Uncle Rock was off-camera playing piano and various other folks were strewn about the stage.

The Deedle Deedle Dees (well, the half of them who were there) did play their brand new song about my wearing a dress to elementary school. I'll try to get the song uploaded for your listening pleasure at some point.

Update: Gwyneth has a report and pictures and videos up.

Update 2: Jeff has pictures.
